Many people do not realize that contamination in the underground water supply can lead to a buildup of the same contamination in the air of one’s home. This is often overlooked, mainly when public water is supplied to the house or the residents rely on bottled water for drinking and cooking.

While this source of exposure is not apparent to most, it can be significant. This is true for homes built with a basement or crawlspace or when young children are exposed due to their heightened sensitivity to environmental contaminants.

Often those responsible for the contamination fail to mention this source of exposure to the public, and local, state, and federal environmental agencies also overlook it. However, relatively simple tests can confirm the buildup of these contaminants and the contamination should be addressed.
